Moods of Margazhi

The magic of Margazhi is special – over the years it has been growing stronger and continues to draw in culture-lovers from all over the world to Chennai, to experience the joys of the season first hand.

As mentioned in our previous blog, Sarangi – the Kanjivaram sari store, in association with Margazhi.org presents “Moods of Margazhi” – a unique photographic celebration of this Margazhi season – one of the largest music and dance festivals. The event started with a photography contest which was open to photography enthusiasts – the subject being “the vibrant Margazhi music and dance festival”.

We are pleased to share that the following are the members of the Moods of Margazhi Judges Panel:

  • T.M.Krishna – Carnatic musician
  • Venkat Ram – Ace Photographer
  • Sanjay Sridhar - President, Photographic Society of Madras
  • Lata Ganapathy – Ravikiran – The Hindu

About the judges:

T.M. Krishna is a Carnatic music vocalist. Krishna is known for his resonant voice and strict adherence to classicism. He has travelled widely in India and abroad and won applause from his listeners. His concerts are usually marked by an electrifying performance and a deeply moved audience! 
He has received numerous awards and titles from many leading organizations, notable amongst which are the Young Achievers Award by India Today and the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Award by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Sanjay Sridhar is the son of the famous Film Producer and Director C.V.Sridhar. He has been a passionate photographer from a very young age having done a few professional interior and fashion shoots in his earlier days. He has also had many acceptances in international salons. Sanjay is the President of Photographic Society of Madras, the 3rd oldest photographic society in the world.

Venket Ram is a well known photographer based in Chennai. For over 18 years, he been working with various advertising agencies & publishing houses across India. He’s also been working with the film industry, shooting for the promos for over a hundred movies.
Venket Ram, has recently started an annual calendar. Shots for the first issue were taken in Chennai and Hyderabad of actors modelling with vintage cars. The calendar was launched by Mani Ratnam on December 24, 2010 with Trisha Krishnan, Raadhika and Udhayanidhi Stalin attending the event. Venket Ram has also taken publicity stills for films like Enthiran, Madrasapattinam, and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa.

Lata Ganapathy is an Assistant Editor at the Internet Editorial of The Hindu. Trained in Carnatic music by Lalgudi Rajalakshmi, and currently, her husband Chitravina Ravikiran, Lata enjoys listening to various genres of music. Her other interests include interior design, fitness, photography and travel.

Shortlisted entries will be exhibited at Art Houz Gallery, Kasturi Ranga road, Chennai from 21st to 23rd January, 2013.
